Thursday*Faces*Family*Friends

Getting little glimpses into bloggers lives is one of the perks of blogging. At least I think so…but this week I’m not  posting pictures of family or friends but a face that is becoming quite familiar, Kate Middleton.

ceilings

Ceilings are the fifth wall. You’ve heard that right? Yet how many of us are actually brave enough to paint our ceilings any color but white?

A friend owned a big house with very tall ceilings. Whenever I visited her I was aware of the feeling of spaciousness, it’s something I don’t have at my house. Coming home from her house, I’d walk in the door and feel like I was living in a cracker box.  8’ ceilings don’t feel spacious and I’m definitely not brave enough to paint them in a bold color. But I can dream…..

I found some gorgeous inspiration pictures for those of you lucky enough to have high ceilings.

Clicking the pictures will take you to the source.

This kitchen has a beautiful faux finish on the ceiling but check out the rest of the room too!2009-09-rhoney.jpg

The ceiling of this sweet nursery is yellow with birds and clouds and I love the unfinished bird houses too, it’s very gender neutral.

Ceiling 2

A coffered ceiling with planks……Love this! Or do you prefer the darker stained planks?ceiling

These from reclaimed wood are just breath taking.

Dark Painted Ceiling Accent

A black ceiling, WOW. I can’t imagine my low ceilings painted black, but, they just might feel like they disappeared. I’m definitely not brave enough to try.

Bright colors can punch up a space

And this purple ceiling, again, a big WOW. How would this room look or feel with out that large pop of color? Don’t you love this?

Post and beam construction with another gorgeous ceiling. This is just gorgeous!

beadboard ceiling

Bead board on the ceiling is becoming popular and I love this look too.

And this beautiful ceiling was just completed at my daughter’s house.Minwax, QT, White Wash Pickling Stain, Water Based Interior Wood ... She used pine boards with lots of knots and then white washed lightly just to reduce the gold hue of the wood.

Here’s a before shot of her stucco/popcornish ceiling.

Here’s the after. What a difference!

It’s so pretty!

Have you ever wanted a bright color on your ceiling or are you satisfied with plain ceiling white? I sure wish my ceilings were higher …….then I might just try a pop of color up there or a beautiful plank ceiling.

So consider your ceilings, what do you think?

Orchids and Icy weather

What do they have in common? Nothing really…..

Outside my door this beautiful icy world exists.

Rhododendrons are modeling icy hoods.

Ice creations resemble frozen flowers on this holly bush.

2011_02_02_1228

This amazes me! Our blue atlas cedar has branches that are completely encased in ice.

Inside, another wonder is taking place. An orchid pushing up a flower stem!

sno 11 orchidstem

This amazes me too! My daughter gave me this orchid that she received as a gift. She enjoyed its flowers but when they were gone she couldn’t get it to bloom again.

I brought it home, read up on orchid care and wow, it’s going to bloom! All I did was water it! That’s it……maybe the temperature had something to do with it. I don’t know…….I’m anxiously awaiting the flowers. Do you think I should give it back to her now?  ah…no Got any tips for caring for orchids? Nothing like blooming flowers to help chase the winter blahs! rose

I have spray painting projects lined up just waiting for the weather to cooperate. This winter weather can’t leave fast enough. It’s putting a damper on my spirits and my projects. I can’t wait to open the windows and let some fresh air in and get started.   SunSunshine, warm temperatures and bird song, come on!

Eggs, over easy

Over easy (dippy eggs) is my favorite way to eat eggs.

From wikipedia, 'Over easy' cooked on both sides; the yolk is a light runny and the egg white is fully cooked. "Over easy" fried eggs are also commonly referred to as dippy eggs or dip eggs by Marylanders, by Pennsylvania Dutch persons living in central Pennsylvania and those living around them, mainly due to the practice of dipping toast into the yolk while eating.

So when you say dippy eggs around these parts, people know what you’re talking about.

Source These are sunny side up, definitely not dippy.

Fry Perfect Eggs

And these yolks look cooked a little too much for my liking.

As much as I love the perfect dippy eggs, I CANNOT make them at home!

I think my cooking technique is ok. It’s the flipping technique that’s impossible for me to master!

33

This was my lunch. I end up with broken yolks every time and hardly any dippy! Every    single     time.

22

Will I ever attain nirvana?  Steak and the perfect dippies! So good!

Eggs over easy, home fries without onions, rye toast, and sausage. Enough to take some home.

From Mayfield Diner in PA

I dream of putting on my apron and pearls, à la June Cleaver and serving up the perfect eggs.  So I’m sending out an SOS.  Making the perfect dippy egg is on my bucket list……..I know….pathetic,  truly pathetic, but help me please!
